Since 1966, the DeShano family has been building quality housing for Michigan’s working class. With little prior building experience, Gary DeShano built the company’s first house himself – on only two hours of sleep a night! Shortly after completing that first home, DeShano Construction Company was incorporated and the first office opened in Bay City, Michigan.
A few years later in 1972, Gary turned his attention to factory-built housing and built a modular home plant on Fraser Road in Bay City. Gary later sold the plant to General Housing and returned his focus to site-built homes, moving the office to Gladwin in 1978. Over the next several decades, Gary grew the company’s sales to over 80 homes a year by finding a niche in the starter home market. Through the use of optimum value engineering and berm foundations, Gary was able to provide a quality but affordable product to satisfy the needs of countless growing families.
And while the demands of today’s market are different, we still incorporate that legacy of value engineering through the use of things like foam sheathing and permanent wood foundations. Gary’s wife Florence retired from the company in 1996, while Gary, along with their two sons Scott and Chad continued to grow the business.
In 2007, Chad purchased the company incorporating under the name DeShano Companies Inc. (DCI). Today, DCI continues to build new homes, multifamily and commercial buildings, while Gary stays busy with property management and development. The future is looking bright as a third-generation is already making an impact on the DeShano family of companies.
